The File->Configure->Speech dialog
If you had the Festival text-to-speech system installed when you configured Xastir, then Xastir can use that system to speak to you.
This dialog allows you to turn on text-to-speech alerts for certain events. The band opening and proximity alert features require you to have configured minimum and maximum distances in the [[Audio Alarms|Configure-Audio]] dialog.
The festival-produced speech will not only alert you to these events, but will speak some text related to the specifics. For example, you can have it read out the text of the body of any received messages, or tell you the callsigns of stations that have sent you messages.
The "Test" button will verify that your text-to-speech system is set up correctly by directing it to speak "Greetings from Xastir".
