The Map Properties dialog
This dialog allows you to set parameters that will be applied when rendering any of your selected maps. Only the maps you have selected in the Map Chooser dialog will appear here.
-
Min and Max Zoom: The map will only be displayed when the current zoom level is between the min and max values set here. A "-" means that the value will not be used.
Change the setting by selecting the map in the list, entering a value in the text box next to the "Max Zoom->" or "Min Zoom->" buttons, then click the button.
-
Map Layer: Maps whose map layer values are the same will be drawn in the order they appear in the list (that is, alphabetically).
You can change the layer of a map by selecting it in the list, putting a number in the text box next to the "Change Layer->" button, and clicking the button.
Maps with lower layer numbers are drawn before maps with higher layer numbers.
A layer number displayed as "-" is the same as a layer of 0.
Layers are most useful when using maps from multiple sources and types. Set your raster maps to be the lowest layer numbers, polygon vector maps to be an intermediate number, and line vector maps the highest numbers. This will cause the opaque images of the rasters to be rendered first, the filled polygons to be drawn on top of them, and the line vectors drawn on top of that.
-
Fill: This setting only applies to polygon vector layers. If "Yes" is chosen, the polygons will always be filled. If "No" is chosen, they will never be filled. If "Auto" is chosen (the default for new maps), polygons will be filled or unfilled as determined by their associated dbfawk files. Change it by selecting the map and clicking one of the buttons next to "Filled->"
-
Auto Map: This map will be considered for display if "Enable Auto Maps" is selected in the Map Menu. You shouldn't select "Enable Auto Maps" in that menu, as it's a deprecated, early feature of Xastir that has mostly been replaced by other features such as the layer setting, min/max zoom, and dbfawk.
Change it by selecting the map and clicking one of the buttons next to "Automaps->"
-
USGS DRG: This refers to a special feature of Xastir designed to work with United States Geological Survey topographic quadrangles in GeoTIFF format. Since these files were created with very specific color maps, it is possible to turn off specific colors of the map to make them somewhat transparent and to only display specific features you are interested in. But it only works with real USGS GeoTIFF files with that official color map.
Setting this flag to "Auto" for a map means that Xastir will try to figure out whether the file is actually a USGS topo quad based on information in the file name and in the GeoTIFF tags. If so, the special USGS topo features of the map menu will apply to this file.
Setting this flag to "No" means that the options in the map menu for USGS quads will never apply to this file.
Setting this flag to "Yes" means that the options in the map menu for USGS quads will always apply to this file, even if Auto would not have recognized it as a USGS file.
Change the flag by selecting the map and clicking one of the buttons next to "USGS DRG->"
You can ignore this value if you aren't using any of the USGS-Topo-specific options in the Maps->Configure menu.
-
Select All: highlight all maps in the list. Any changes made to Min or Max zoom, fill, automaps, or USGS DRG setting will apply to all selected maps.
-
Clear: Deselects all maps
-
Close: make your changes take effect and return to the Map Chooser.
