System-specific install notes
The general process described in Installing Xastir presumes that you are able to install dependent libraries on your specific system.
Many users state that the hardest part of getting Xastir installed is finding all the packages we depend on. We list generically what packages those are in our main install document, but every system's package management software calls the actual packages something different.
We'll try to capture that here. The main problem is that the developers do NOT have every single variant Linux distro available to try everything out, so we rely on user contributions.
This page will not document the entire process of installation of Xastir on your system, but we will provide guidance for how to install the dependent libraries.
There may be useful information at http://xastir.org/index.php/Installation_Notes if that site isn't down, but be warned that some of the notes there are very outdated.
