Welcome to Xastir!
What is Xastir?
XASTIR, or X Amateur Station Tracking and Information Reporting.
Xastir is an APRS™ program that is Open Source and free to use and pass out to others. Currently this program is in development and should not be seen as a finished product! Your help will be needed to make this a better program. If you have programming skills and/or can write documentation, your help may be needed! We have a lot of ideas but very little time, so if you think you can add something to the effort let us know!
The most up-to-date information is available from The APRS Foundation, Inc., https://how.aprs.works . This is the place you should start if you want to learn about APRS from a modern perspective.
APRS™ is originally a Trademark of Bob Bruninga. A historical copy of Bob's original APRS web site is at www.aprs.org. A great deal of information on APRS™ can be found there, if you look hard enough.
Xastir has been the effort of a large number of volunteer contributors. The AUTHORS file in the Xastir source code directory lists many of those contributors.
